The downside is that the adjuster isn't really linear and they are twin tube, but compared to the KYB, Tokico and other lower end shocks, they are much better quality and the tech is much more sound. Also, Koni will stand behind their product, based on my experience. They also are relatively inexpensive, being about $100/set more than oem replacements (at Mazdaspeed pricing) or lower quality aftermarket. If you don't want to mess with them, you don't have to, as you can always "set and forget" (which is probably most common). I think for most daily drivers, the Koni Sport (yellow) makes the most sense, as you can run them soft and have a better than oem ride, but also have the option to firm them up for more spirited use.
BLUEX XTERRA BUILD THREAD DRIVERS
I have driven the R package shocks and they are too stiff for most drivers and I have driven revalved HD's and found them very good.but, then you're into the $700+ range.fine if you want a great shock for autocross or track use (with appropriate valving), but kind of getting pricey for a dd. I don't know, I've never driven a Miata with ots valved Bils, so I can't say. Since you don't want an adjustable, my first thought is ots (off the shelf) Bilstein HD, but my friend Shaikh Fat Cat Motorsports seems to feel that in a NA application, they ramp up too quick on rebound, which makes the shock want to "stay down" (jack down), which results in a stiffer ride.

So what's the general consensus on a good "slightly-stiffer-than-stock-but-not-high-performance" shock for a spirited daily driver? My definition of a good replacement is one that I don't adjust or think about for another 60K. If you cant spring the extra cash for adjustables, the KYB GR-2 has a much better track record for ride and quality than the Tokico HP. And a friend who also got them had one leaking oil in less than 4 months. but in hindsight, I still regret it, and concur with those whose opinions were more quickly onto their shortcomings than I. Unlike some other posters, I was NOT down on tokico HP's initially. and cost only a little more to start with. They were better riding from new, and have not got noticebly worse with time. I have now had Koni Sports for over a decade. in 3 years and ~30 k miles, without being "blown", no leaks or sudden failure, they were considerably worse riding and no longer suitable for my daily commute (on reasonably good roads). I didnt mind the ride when they were new, but many passengers complained about the stiff bumpy ride (and this was with stock springs- they are even worse with lowering springs).
